- Description: Understand the four iPhone 18 Pro Max regional models, their SIM and 5G differences, storage options, and the official Black, Silver, Glacier and Burgundy finishes.

Two phones can both be called iPhone 18 Pro Max, have the same colour and storage, and still differ in their SIM setup and cellular hardware. The country of sale matters, but the hardware model number gives a more precise identity.

This Ublog guide separates the regional versions from the storage and colour choices, so labels such as “US version”, “international version” and “dual SIM” are easier to understand. It compares the variants without ranking them.

Three different meanings of “variant”: the regional hardware model determines the SIM and radio configuration; storage determines capacity; colour determines the exterior finish. These are separate details.

 The four regional hardware versions

Apple’s regional specification pages identify different Pro Max model numbers. The main distinctions are the physical SIM tray, eSIM support and the available cellular bands. The table below uses the US, UAE, UK and China mainland documentation as reference markets. [1–5]

Model Reference markets SIM configuration Cellular distinction

A3473 United States eSIM only; two active eSIMs supported Sub-6GHz 5G and mmWave 5G

A3716 UAE; also sold in selected eSIM-only markets eSIM only; no physical SIM tray Sub-6GHz 5G; a different band configuration from the US model

A3717 UK and other countries and regions Nano-SIM and eSIM; dual eSIM also supported Sub-6GHz 5G; regional LTE and 5G band configuration

A3718 China mainland Supports two nano-SIM cards; also eligible for China mainland eSIM activation under Apple’s published requirements China mainland regional configuration

“Dual SIM” does not always mean two removable SIM cards. On an eSIM-only model, both active lines are digital. On the UK model, Apple lists nano-SIM plus eSIM and dual eSIM support. The China mainland model has its own activation rules; physical and digital SIM options should not be read as permission to run every possible combination simultaneously. [1, 3–5]

 What mmWave changes

The US specification lists mmWave bands n258, n260 and n261. The UK and UAE specifications list sub-6GHz 5G instead. mmWave is a separate radio capability, not a different camera, display or storage tier. Actual network access depends on the carrier and coverage, so a hardware band list alone cannot establish the speeds a person will experience. [1–3]

Why the SIM tray also affects battery specifications

Apple says its eSIM-only Pro models use space formerly occupied by the SIM tray for a larger battery, providing two additional hours of video playback. That is a regional hardware difference, not a benefit attached to a particular colour. Battery figures are test results rather than a promise of identical everyday runtime. [6]

 Storage variants: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB

Apple lists four iPhone 18 Pro Max storage capacities: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB . Capacity is independent of the model number. A “512GB US version” description therefore combines two specifications: storage and regional hardware. [1]

Storage figures describe the nominal space available for the operating system, apps, photos, videos and other files; they do not identify the SIM arrangement. A colour name is equally insufficient for identifying the regional version.

 The four official colours

The official finishes are Black, Silver, Glacier and Burgundy . The colour names below describe the exterior finish, not different performance grades. [6]

 The core Pro Max specifications

Apple’s specifications list a 6.9-inch OLED Super Retina XDR display with adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz, the A20 Pro chip, and a triple 48MP rear camera system. The main camera has variable aperture; the other rear cameras cover ultra-wide and telephoto photography. These headline specifications explain the Pro Max platform, while the regional table explains its connectivity differences. [2]

How to identify a particular phone

Open Settings → General → About . Tap the value beside Model Number to reveal the A-number instead of the part number. Apple also describes checking the retail packaging for model information. For China mainland eSIM, Apple specifically identifies the compatible Pro Max model as A3718. [5]

A useful product description keeps each detail separate: iPhone 18 Pro Max / hardware model / storage / colour / SIM configuration . For example, “A3717 / 512GB / Silver / nano-SIM and eSIM” communicates more than “international Silver”.

What this means for Uzaja readers

On Uzaja , these distinctions give readers a clear way to interpret phone descriptions and ask precise questions about a listing. The hardware model, storage and finish should be read together rather than treating a country nickname as a complete specification.
